Practical guide

Run a useful 30-minute software evaluation

Observe a realistic task before asking whether someone likes the product.

ContractCanvas insights

Begin with the current process

Use the first ten minutes to ask how the participant recently scoped, priced and revised an engagement. Identify tools, decision roles and recurring difficulties. Avoid presenting the proposed solution before understanding whether the problem occurs.

Give a bounded task

Use fifteen minutes for a sample case: inspect deliverables, revise effort, review a fee and produce an updated document. State the goal without explaining every click. Record help, errors and abandoned steps as carefully as successful completion.

Discuss the decision

Use the final five minutes to ask what would prevent repeat use, what existing tool the workflow would replace and who could approve a purchase. An enthusiastic comment is different from a purchasing decision. Record the participant’s words accurately and ask permission before any public attribution.

Make the result actionable

Link findings to the tested release and task. Choose the correction, owner and retest condition. ContractCanvas’s feedback queue can store the local record, but real participants, consent and outcomes must be collected through an agreed process. Do not preload positive responses as demonstration data.
